Everton could complete 'bargain' Luke Shaw signing with talks underway - pundit
Noel Whelan has claimed Everton would be “foolish” if they didn’t pursue a move for Man United left-back Luke Shaw as his contract continues to run down.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted it is “rare” that players of the 27-year-old’s quality are available for such a “bargain”.
According to Football Transfers (8 November), discussions between Shaw and Everton remain “ongoing” after summer interest in the defender from the Merseysiders.
The England international, who will play at this month’s World Cup in Qatar, is out of contract at the end of the season – with Man United holding the option to extend his deal a further 12 months.
Shaw has won back a starting berth at Old Trafford after being displaced by summer signing Tyrell Malacia at the beginning of the 2022-23 campaign.
Whelan backed the left-back to strike up a “massive” relationship with fellow internationals James Tarkowski and Conor Coady if he moves to Goodison Park.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “If it’s a free transfer then you’re getting him for almost nothing, it’s just wages.
“It’d be a good deal if it happens that way because it’s rare you get players of his quality for free.
“He’s got that experience, he’s been in big changing rooms – and to have him next to Tarkowski and Coady would be massive.
“It’s hard to turn down quality players like Shaw when they’re available for a bargain like that.
“They’d be foolish if they didn’t do everything they can to get him through the door.”
