Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness believes Amadou Onana’s value could rocket if he has a strong European Championships.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – admitted the Belgium international could “shine” at the tournament as the speculation around his future is likely to die down for a few weeks.

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Goodison Park over the past few months, with several top clubs believed to be monitoring his situation.

Amadou Onana could leave Everton after European Championships

Wyness is hoping the midfielder impresses at the European Championships and the Merseysiders can get as much money as possible for him to help ease their financial concerns.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Onana has a chance to shine for Belgium.

“He was man of the match against England in the eyes of many people.

“He could shine at the Euros, which I think would help his valuation. I would hope that could be the case.

“The Euros will provide a distraction for the players, certainly in the media.

Everton

“In the silly season in this time of the year, they will have the Euros to fill those pages rather than endless speculation about transfer dealings.

“I think Everton are going to be sliding by through June and July.”
