Everton: David Moyes is ‘adamant’ Carlos Alcaraz move should be blocked

Everton manager David Moyes is “adamant” that he does not want to lose attacking midfielder Carlos Alcaraz this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Argentine has endured a difficult campaign on Merseyside and is considering the idea of a move away from the Hill Dickinson Stadium ahead of next season as a result.

Nevertheless, Moyes is keen to ensure that the club doesn’t entertain any idea of selling the 23-year-old, as sources say that the boss still expects him to have a role to play next term.

The Scot feels that Alcaraz is still a player who he can count upon to come into the starting XI and perform, and feels that an unfortunate run of injuries has been the driving factor behind his struggles.

Everton’s transfer plans are set to see them try to strengthen their hand again this summer, and they are not hoping to lose any of their current key players.

How many games has Carlos Alcaraz missed through injury this season?

Alcaraz made a big impact on Merseyside when he first joined the Toffees on loan in January 2025, so much so that they turned his move from Flamengo into a permanent switch last summer.

The former Southampton man notched two goals and three assists from just 15 Premier League appearances last term, but he has struggled to replicate that form this time around and is still waiting for his first league goal of the campaign.

Alcaraz has found it hard to break into the starting XI past the established stars like Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Iliman Ndiaye, while Moyes clearly feels that his injuries also haven’t helped his cause.

The youngster missed five games through injury around the turn of the year, and he is currently sidelined with another knock, with his already taken his total list of absences to 11 games and counting this season.

However, those fitness issues have not been consistent across his career so far, which gives Everton hope that he may be able to overcome them again next season.

Alcaraz’s frustrations are clear after his struggles to secure regular gametime in recent months, but Moyes and Co. have no intention of letting him move on this summer.

Alcaraz’s competition to get stronger as Everton eye £15m winger swoop

Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson told Football Insider earlier this week that his former club could accept a £15million offer from Everton for Jack Grealish this summer.

The finance guru suggested that the final year of the winger’s contract at the Etihad Stadium will be worth around the £15m mark, and outlined that they would likely sell for an offer around that figure.

Borson noted that City will also be willing to subsidise some of the former England international’s hefty wage demands to ensure that they can get him out of the door, rather than risk losing him for free in 2027.

Everton have the option to buy the ex-Aston Villa star for £50m at the end of his loan spell, but it has already become abundantly clear that they cannot afford to shell out that much.

However, a £15m swoop appears much more likely, and that could see Alcaraz’s competition get even stronger when he returns to fitness next term.
