Everton Exclusive: Bruce in no doubt where Walcott will be playing next season

Alex Bruce is convinced Theo Walcott will still be at Everton next season as Carlo Ancelotti will regard him as a key member of his squad.

The former Premier League defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admits that the 31-year-old might not be a regular in the starting XI but he still has plenty to offer the Toffees.

The Mirror (March 29, Page 77), as relayed by the Sun, claims that the former Arsenal winger will be one of the first casualties of a major overhaul at Goodison Park this summer.

However, Bruce believes that Ancelotti will want to keep Walcott’s experience and quality o board as part of his squad, insisting everyone in football knows about his professionalism.

Bruce told Football Insider: “He’s a good squad player, Theo Walcott, we all know what he can do, we’ve seen what he can do over the years.

“I think he’s someone that Ancelotti will want to keep. He’s got valuable experience, on his day he can unlock any defence with his pace. Yes, he might not be playing as regularly as he wants.

“However, he’s got that decision to make whether he drops down a little bit to a lesser club in the Premier League or if he rides it out. I just think he’s got to ride it out at Everton and be the good squad player everybody knows he is.

“He’s a good lad, a good professional – everyone knows that within the game – so he might not play as much as he wants but when called upon he can do a job for anybody.”

Walcott played 21 times in the Premier League this season before it was suspended, with just one goal and two assists to his name.

He has a total of 79 Everton appearances under his belt.
