Everton fans will throw their weight behind Benitez as Ferguson plan revealed - pundit
Alan Hutton has suggested Rafael Benitez could get Everton fans onside immediately by giving Duncan Ferguson a key role on his coaching staff.
The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested his fellow countryman could sway supporters by backing the ex-Liverpool boss.
As revealed by Football Insider today (June 25th), Benitez has told friends he is set defy allies and take the Everton job despite fan backlash.
However, the 61-year-old has overcome his cold feet and has been convinced by the Toffees’ ambitions and support.
An Everton source has told Football Insider that Benitez is set to offer longstanding coach Ferguson a key role among his prospective backroom staff.

Hutton suggested having a club legend alongside the Spaniard would help allay the fans’ concerns.
“I think you need somebody within there who knows the club front and back,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“He knows the fans, he can relate to the fans. If he backs the manager then he’ll maybe bring them with him. I think you need somebody in your backroom staff like that.
“These guys that are in clubs, they need to stay there. They need to be involved in some capacity because it’s experience and you need it.
“As a new manager in a club you need that face. You need to bounce back off the players and stuff. I think that would be a good appointment if they could keep him in some sort of role.”
Ferguson first joined the first-team coaching staff at Everton in 2014.
He was made assistant manager under recently-departed boss Carlo Ancelotti.
