Everton are now runaway favourites to sign Swansea assist king Gylfi Sigurdsson this summer, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.
Ladbrokes priced the Merseyside club on Sunday night at an overwhelming 1/7 to prise the Iceland international from the Liberty Stadium before the closure of the forthcoming window.
Everton are well ahead of the next placed club in the betting, with 2015-16 league champions Leicester priced at 4/1.
The odds have been slashed on Everton pushing through the deal compared to last month, when they were 5/6 to with Sky Bet to push through a deal.
Attacker Sigurdsson had an outstanding 2016-17 campaign, scoring nine goals and supplying 13 assists from 38 Premier League matches.
Only Fernando Llorente, who scored 15 goals, at Swansea topped the prolific playmaker’s haul of 10 goals in all competitions.
Only Kevin de Bruyne of Manchester City provided more assists in the Premier League in 2017-18 with his tally of 16.
Football Insider verdict:
Following a saga that has dragged on for months, this betting update should have Everton fans salivating with anticipation. It is a strong sign that Everton are in pole position to wrap up the signing of one of the Premier League’s most creative players following multiple bids and sustained efforts from Merseyside to seal the deal. It is testament to Sigurdsson’s pedigree that he shone for Swansea as they escaped relegation last season, and almost single-handedly revived their fortunes just when it appeared they were slipping through the relegation trap door. However, it appears he is ready to depart the club for a second time, after pulling out of their pre-season trip. Sigurdsson and Everton appear to be a very good fit.
In other Everton transfer news, the Toffees are to throw this rising star into a player-plus-cash deal to sign Sigurdsson.
