Andre Gomes wants to quit Everton as they line up a move for Tottenham star Harry Winks, Football Insider understands.

An Everton source has told Football Insider that Winks has been identified as a priority target and Gomes will be allowed to leave if a new signing is brought in.

However, Spurs' £20million asking price for Winks is an issue for Everton in light of their financial constraints caused by previous overspending.

They would prefer a loan, or a loan-to-buy, deal for the 26-year-old Englishman.

It is unlikely Tottenham would accept that, especially as they need to fund their own summer recruitment drive.

Antonio Conte has already been backed by the board with three new signings - Yves Bissouma, Fraser Forster and Ivan Perisic.

Spurs are expected to more than double that number of new senior captures, and will need to free up space on their wage bill to do so.

Winks has failed to establish himself as a regular under Conte.

The 10-times England international has fallen down the pecking order following the arrival of Rodrigo Bentancur in January.

It would trim the wage bill considerably at Everton were they to offload Gomes.

He signed a five-year contract worth around £120,000-a-week when he joined permanently in the summer of 2019 following a successful season on loan from Barcelona.
