Everton fight big-name Premier League trio to 22-year-old signing - report

By Harry Sykes

Everton are keeping close tabs on Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, according to a report.

The Daily Mail claim the Merseyside club are interested in signing the highly rated youngster as they eye a long-term custodian.

It is said Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City are also keeping track on the 22-year-old following his impressive performances over the last 12 months.

Pickford has emerged as one of the outstanding young goalkeepers in English football since making his Premier League debut in January of last year.

The Mail report that it is unlikely that Sunderland will be able to hold on to their academy product this summer, particularly if they drop down to the Championship.

He has stood out in David Moyes’ struggling side and has made 21 appearances in all competitions this season, 17 of which have been in the Premier League.

Pickford returned to the Sunderland side for their 2-0 defeat to Everton last weekend after missing two months of the campaign with a knee injury.

Football Insider verdict:

It is little wonder all the big Premier League clubs are fighting over themselves to sign Pickford. The 22-year-old has made a huge impression at Sunderland this season and is clearly destined for big things. He is likely to be available and on the market should the Black Cats fail in their bid to maintain their top-flight status this season.
