Everton learn Liam Delap summer wishes as Emanuel Emegha possibility edges closer

Everton target Liam Delap is reportedly ready to fight for his future at Chelsea despite reports linking him with a move away this summer.

The striker arrived at Stamford Bridge from Ipswich Town last summer, joining in a deal worth around £30million.

But the first season of his Chelsea career has gone woefully, with the 23-year-old netting just twice in 37 appearances across all competitions.

The Toffees are said to be among the teams ready to offer Delap an exit route this summer, with the roles of Thierno Barry and Beto not secure.

The latter has just one year remaining on his contract, and could be sold by Everton transfer chiefs this summer.

Everton will have to convince Liam Delap

Football Insider exclusively revealed in February that Everton have made Delap a top target ahead of the summer.

David Moyes is keen to sign a consistent frontman, amid a season that has seen both Beto and Barry struggle to provide reliability.

Barry, 23, arrived from Villarreal last summer and enjoyed a strong period of form between December and the end of January, but he has since slowed down and lost his place.

Beto had started the season well before being dropped for the Frenchman, but a recent run of six direct goal contributions in just six games has seen him become Moyes’ main man once more.

The Scot appears to be stuck in a constant cycle of rotation between the two, with a step up in quality targeted this summer.

Delap has failed to adapt to life at Chelsea, but his 12 Premier League goals for a struggling Ipswich Town last season have already proven his quality.

Unfortunately for the Toffees, the Telegraph reported on Monday that the 23-year-old wants to stay and fight for his Chelsea career this summer.

Everton may well be able to convince Delap that his future lies elsewhere, but the forward has five years remaining on his contract and does not want to leave.

Everton can take advantage of Emanuel Emegha situation

Chelsea agreed a deal with sister club Emanuel Emegha last year, with the striker due to join this summer.

Everton have shown interest in the 23-year-old before, and could well take advantage of a situation bound to develop at Stamford Bridge.

The Dutchman, who has scored eight goals across all competitions this season despite spending much of it injured, was due to play under his former manager Liam Rosenior.

With the Englishman now sacked and Chelsea due to have a surplus of strikers this summer, Emegha could well be bound for an immediate loan move.

Everton could provide an ideal destination for his initial year in the Premier League, and they would be gaining a superb forward in the process.
