Everton news: Pundit issues two-word verdict on Andre Gomes after journalist's £20m update

Paul Robinson has claimed Everton have “no chance” of selling Andre Gomes for £20million this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one claimed the 29-year-old is probably worth closer to £10million.

Gomes struggled for game time in the 2021-22 campaign.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast (29 July), journalist Alan Myers revealed the Toffees are listening to offers for the centre-midfielder.

Frank Lampard’s side are said to want between £15million and £20million for the Portugal international.

Gomes has two years remaining on his contract at Goodison Park.

When asked by Football Insider if Everton could recoup such a fee for Gomes, Robinson issued a two-word verdict: “No chance.

“I think they’re asking for too much there, especially when you take into account the amount of football he played last season.

“Everton need to cut their wage bill. They need to get revenue in and they need to allow the manager some leeway so he can mould the squad how he likes. He needs to be allowed to bring in players that he wants.

“It is difficult with financial fair play though and the gross overspending they have done. Frank has had it tough. It has been a steep learning curve for him.

“I think £20million for Gomes is asking for a lot. It is not realistic.

“If the can get him and his salary off the books for half of that it would help them.”
