Everton have tabled a £26.6million bid for Fiorentina forward Nikola Kalinic, according to a report.
Italian news outlet Tutto Mercato Web claims that Kalinic, 29, is desperate to force a move away from Fiorentina with AC Milan also said to the tracking him.
It is understood that the 35-times Croatia international went AWOL from training earlier this week in order to push through a move to the San Siro, but Fiorentina want Milan to match the mega-bid made by Everton.
Kalinic has been part of the Fiorentina squad since 2015 but it now seems like after two years he is pushing for a move away from La Viola.
Everton are widely reported to be on the lookout for a new striker to fill the void left by Romelu Lukaku, who moved to Manchester United earlier this summer.
Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney are the only first-team players who are likely to lead the Toffees attack this season unless someone else is bought in.
Kalinic, formerly of Blackburn, scored 20 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions for Fiorentina last season.
Football Insider Verdict
There is no way that a player like Kalinic is worth anywhere near what Everton have bidded for him. It seems that Koeman is getting desperate to get another striker in before the transfer window shuts, but he will simply be better off keeping Sandro and Rooney as his two only options. Kalinic has Premier League experience but showed that he wasn’t able to cope in England from his spell at Blackburn. Just because he has one good season in Italy, and at the age of 29, doesn’t mean he is worth over £20million. Fiorentina can sense the desperation coming from Merseyside and it’s natural that they would want to bump up the price. Everton will be getting conned if they pull off this deal.
