Everton told to pull Marcelo Bielsa U-turn after new talks twist - pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed Marcelo Bielsa would be a “great fit” at Everton amid continued speculation over the future of Frank Lampard.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Toffees fans “should be absolutely overjoyed” if their club go back in for the ex-Whites boss.

Everton sources told this site on Tuesday (15 November) that the Merseysiders have decided to stand by Frank Lampard and give him time to turn their season around despite briefly considering a move for Bielsa.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (21 November) that Bournemouth’s talks with the 67-year-old had collapsed after the Cherries offered the job to the Argentine.

However, this site updated on Tuesday (22 November) to reveal Everton are not planning to hold talks with Bielsa despite the collapse.

Everton sit just one point outside the relegation zone after signing off for the mid-season World Cup break with three defeats in five games.

Whelan claimed the Goodison Park faithful would welcome a harder-working, more exciting brand of football.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “The one thing that Bielsa would bring to Everton is a more attractive, attacking brand of football.

“I think it would be a breath of fresh air for them. The fans would love to see it.

“We’ve seen what he does. He sets up his teams to attack, to work hard, to press – I think that’s all the Everton fans want to see.

“They want their side to have a go at teams and take the game to the opposition. At the moment, they’re just sitting back and absorbing.

“At the moment it’s not working, and I think Bielsa would be a great fit. The fans should be absolutely overjoyed to see him at Goodison Park.”
