Everton transfer latest: Goal machine in animated chat with director after approach

By Matt Bullin

Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo failed in his efforts to sign Everton striker Romelu Lukaku last summer but the pair were spotted together in animated conversation on Sunday.

A photo in the Telegraph shows Lukaku and Emenalo in the corridor outside the dressing rooms at Goodison Park on Sunday in the aftermath of Chelsea’s 3-0 win.

It was Emenalo who originally recruited Lukaku from Anderlecht for Chelsea back in 2011, as part of a strategy of signing Europe’s top talents with a view to long-term success at Stamford Bridge.

The Telegraph reported the pair embraced and talked for some time in the players ‘tunnel at Goodison Park.

Lukaku failed to make an impact against his former club as Pedro, Willian and Gary Cahill all netted to hand the league leaders three points.

Rumours of a Chelsea move for the Belgian forward have been growing after it has surfaced that he has turned down a new £140,000 a week deal at Goodison, stating he wants Champions League football.

According to the Telegraph report the Blues were interested in signing the 23-year-old last summer, only to have their plans scuppered by Everton majority shareholder  Farhad Moshiri.

Lukaku has been in fine form this season and currently leads the race for the Premier League golden boot with 24 goals.

The 58-time Belgium international has also provided six assists in his 34 league appearances, and scored in his one FA Cup game this term too.

Everton fans will hope this was a chat between old friends rather than negotiations ahead of a summer transfer.
