David Moyes ally shares verdict on Everton boss being next Scotland manager - 'Certainly...'
David Moyes is not expected to leave Everton for the Scotland job this summer but it could be a possibility in the future.
That is according to former Everton senior scout and Moyes ally, Bryan King, who exclusively spoke to Football Insider.
Steve Clarke stepped down from his role as Scotland manager on Sunday after it was confirmed that his team had been knocked out of the World Cup.
Moyes immediately emerged as the favourite to take over, despite having been in talks over a new contract at Everton.
The Scot's current deal, which he signed upon his return in January, is set to run until the end of the 2026-27 season.
There has been some disgruntlement towards the 63-year-old in recent months after the Toffees missed out on European football, but his job remains safe for now.
Bryan King on 'strong Scottish connection' at Everton
Clarke was appointed by Scotland in 2019, and has transformed the Tartan Army in the seven years since.
Prior to the former West Brom boss, the Scots had not qualified for a major international tournament since the 1998 World Cup.
Clarke took them to the 2020 and 2024 European Championships, before qualifying for this year's World Cup.
Ultimately, his side never got out of a group stage, but his impact over the years is undeniable.
"Well he's certainly capable of doing it, that's for sure," King, who is an ally of Moyes after working closely with him, told Football Insider. "Alan Irving is assistant with Scotland and assistant with Everton. So there's a strong Scottish connection at Everton anyway.
"Billy McKinlay and Moyes. It's a job that I'm not sure where they'd take it at the moment but it's certainly a name for the future, that is for sure.
"A manager like David Moyes is always going to attract attention from whether it be Scotland or Ireland or Wales or whatever, or England."
What Moyes has said about managing Scotland
Moyes never managed to get a cap for the Scotland senior team as a player, with his management career far outshining his playing days.
But the 63-year-old could still play his part for his nation, should he take over at some stage.
Asked in 2021 whether he would like to manage Scotland, Moyes said: "Yeah, I do now. I'm getting now to a stage in my career where I really enjoy club management and feel I have unfinished business to do yet.
"But I think at the right time, when things are right for me and if it's right for Scotland, then it might be a consideration."
