'David Moyes is going to go nuts' after what he saw in Everton win vs Ipswich

Everton were on the wrong end of a very questionable VAR decision as they beat Ipswich Town 1-0 at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday.

Thierno Barry's goal was enough to separate the sides, with the visitors playing much of the second half with 10 men after Abdul Fatawu was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Yet the Toffees will feel that they should not have been forced into such a vulnerable position, with Barry's second goal having been disallowed.

The Frenchman's header was controversially disallowed for offside, after Brennan Johnson had been adjudged to have been interfering with play.

Such a decision comes at a time in which such decisions are being heavily scrutinised in the Premier League.

Last week saw Erling Haaland's winning goal in the Manchester derby allowed despite Enzo Fernandez's clear interference from an offside position, with Howard Webb later confirming that officials had overlooked the Argentine's position.

Everton have ultimately emerged with the three points and can be pleased with that, but a goal would have changed everything.

Had Ipswich found it, Everton would have been denied two points despite having scored a seemingly fair second goal.

It was a superb header from Barry, flicking Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's corner almost off the far post and giving goalkeeper Christian Walton no chance.

The Ipswich shot-stopper did not complain and nor did any of his teammates, but the VAR, Andrew Kitchen, appeared to be keen to get involved.

The goal was eventually disallowed, with it determined that Johnson's position had interfered with play and prevented the goalkeeper from attempting to make a save.

But Walton's sight does not appear to have been obstructed, and he had not even made the faintest attempt to save a shot that was well past him.

Speaking to BBC Final Score, Chris Sutton said: "David Moyes is going to go nuts about that after the game. That just doesn't seem right."

Understandably, Moyes was seen having a "long chat" with Stuart Attwell at the final whistle, before Barry approached to do the same.

The decision not having had an impact on the final result will not have only been a relief for the Scot, but Pro Ref too.

The organisation is under huge scrutiny following last week's decision to allow Haaland's goal, and another match-changing mistake would have been disastrous.

Yet the decision raises even more questions over the competency of the officials, with any sense of consistency completely lacking.
