Everton could reignite Folarin Balogun move - 'They have been in contact...'

Everton could reignite their move to sign Monaco striker Folarin Balogun when the January transfer window opens.

The 25-year-old came close to joining David Moyes' side on transfer deadline day, but walked out on the deal at the last minute as a result of ongoing complications.

Everton had agreed terms with Monaco and the player, but went back to renegotiate over apparent medical issues, which ultimately left the USA international disillusioned.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Everton have continued to keep tabs on Balogun's situation and remain in contact with his representatives.

Whether or not they opt to renew their move in January, and whether the player would consider it after walking out, remains to be seen but the door has been left open.

This comes after reports claimed Balogun is still looking to move to the Premier League, while Everton remain in need of attacking reinforcements after missing out.

Could Everton reignite their interest in Folarin Balogun?

Football Insider revealed last month that Balogun was left "unhappy" with how his move to Everton was handled, while the collapse also came as a huge blow to the Toffees.

However, despite negativity surrounding the way things ended, there is optimism that an agreement could be reached once again if all parties are willing to hold talks.

Everton have continued to keep tabs on Balogun's performances, and could reignite their interest, with the Toffees still desperately in need of attacking additions.

"I certainly wouldn't rule out the possibility that Everton could return for Balogun," Brown told Football Insider.

"Since that move broke down, they have been keeping an eye on how things have gone and I expect they have been in contact with his representatives as well.

"I don't think it was handled particularly well on either side, Everton tried to re-negotiate late on and ultimately that caused issues that meant Balogun was unsure of the move.

"But they've been updated on his situation since then, keeping tabs on that injury they were worried about, and seeing how he has responded to that.

"By all accounts, they thought he would be a great addition to their team and he wanted to make the move as well because he wants to play in the Premier League.

"I don't think anything has changed in that respect, so if they're willing to sit down, iron things out and come to a conclusion, then that deal could definitely still be on."

What is Monaco's updated stance on selling Balogun?

Balogun's late move to Everton falling through on deadline day also came as a blow to Monaco, who had hoped to shift the striker in an attempt to raise funds.

Lamine Camara's move to Chelsea also fell through at the lats minute, leaving Monaco in a difficult situation, and they are still in need of a sale ahead of the January window.

Football Insider revealed on 6 September that Monaco are still keen to sell Balogun when the transfer window opens again, and had even considered moves after the window closed.

Since his return to the principality club, the striker has continued to battle injury issues which were the primary cause of Everton's scepticism.

However, he returned to action in their 2-1 win against Lens ahead of the break, and if he can continue to prove his fitness then a mid-season move may still be on the cards.
