Everton should accelerate Kuryu Matsuki deal, he's impressing for club and country

David Moyes and Everton should be targeting a move for Southampton star Kuryu Matsuki in the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old has played a key role in pushing the Saints up the Championship table, seeing them go into the international break in 13th place.

Despite starting the season with a four-point deduction, Tonda Eckert's side have done incredibly well to put that blow behind them on the pitch.

Southampton had been on a five-game unbeaten streak before the 2-1 defeat to Wrexham, and Matsuki has also been on a run.

Against Swansea City and Bristol City, the Japanese international grabbed a goal and an assist, potentially capturing the attention of multiple clubs.

Matsuki has only been at St Mary's Stadium since the summer of 2025, but he could soon be on the move again if Everton's scouts are keeping tabs.

Kuryu Matsuki would be perfect for Everton

When signing for the Saints, he was described as an "energetic ball-winning midfielder with an eye for goal," which is exactly what the Toffees need.

With Iliman Ndiaye leaving for Manchester City, Jack Grealish is desperate for a partner in crime, and Matsuki could absolutely be that player.

In addition to his incredible work rate, the 23-year-old definitely knows where the back of the net is, evidenced by his most recent international display.

Just 12 minutes into Japan's clash against Uruguay on Thursday, 24 September, and he had already netted his first-ever goal for his country.

Following a cross-field pass from Keito Nakamura, a current Everton target, Matsuki cut onto his right foot before firing into the far corner for the opener.

Speed, trickery and precision. It was all there from the winger.

What could this mean for Tyler Dibling?

Tyler Dibling is another talent to arrive from Southampton, but it has not quite worked out for the 20-year-old right-winger.

While Football Insider understands that Dibling will be rewarded with more first-team minutes after impressing recently, that could all change with new signings.

He still only has one goal contribution since signing for the Toffees in a £42million deal, which simply isn't good enough.

Brennan Johnson isn't setting the world alight either. Matsuki would have the perfect chance to make the right flank his own at the Hill Dickinson.
