Everton should start Brennan Johnson vs Wolves, the data speaks volumes

Everton supporters must simply trust that new signing Brennan Johnson will soon burst into life at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Welshman has yet to notch a goal contribution in the Premier League for the Toffees, but has a goal and assist to his name in the Carabao Cup.

Coming on in the closing stages against Preston last month, Johnson grabbed two contributions to ensure David Moyes' side claimed victory.

It was exactly the kind of impact that fans expected following his move from Crystal Palace, but his performances have been far too inconsistent.

Moyes signed the 25-year-old for a reason, though, and the Toffees' clash with Championship side Wolves on Wednesday, 16 September, is the perfect chance for him to get his mojo back.

Everton have the chance to reach the Carabao Cup fourth round this week, and Johnson will want to play a big role in that happening.

Brennan Johnson loves facing Wolves

The winger has faced Wolves nine times in his senior career, notching three goals and an assist in those games, while only winning two of them.

In fact, he has only scored more goals against Blackpool, mainly during his time in the second and third divisions.

With just one goal at club level since Tottenham Hotspur's win over Copenhagen in November 2025, it is time for him to prove himself.

Unfortunately, he was also sent off in that game, as Spurs claimed a 4-0 win over the Danish side in the Champions League.

It has been an incredibly difficult couple of years for Johnson, for club and country, and he needs those on Merseyside to support him, rather than berate him.

Braiden Graham deserves first-team opportunity

Premier League teams are always expected to feature academy stars in the cup competitions, and Braiden Graham absolutely deserves a shot.

The 18-year-old was on the bench against Tottenham at the weekend, and deservedly so, following his performances for the Toffees' Under-21s.

So far in 2026-27, Graham has three goals and one assist in four games, having notched 21 goals and four assists in 30 games for the U21s last term.

Since signing from Linfield, Graham has lit up the pitches at Finch Farm, but he has yet to be handed his first-team debut at the Hill Dickinson.
