Everton told to complete Romelu Lukaku re-signing by transfer insider

Everton should attempt to pull off a sensational move to bring back Romelu Lukaku this summer.

That is the opinion of former senior Everton scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

The 33-year-old remains at Napoli but is expected to leave this summer, with his contract set to expire next year.

Lukaku spent almost the entirety of the season injured but has enjoyed a brilliant World Cup return, scoring three goals and providing an assist despite starting just one game.

Belgium's all-time top scorer spent almost four years at Everton, scoring 87 goals in 166 appearances before he joined Manchester United for £75million in 2017.

The striker is now reportedly available to sign for just £8.5m, although his wages will undoubtedly be costly.

Lukaku has played for many teams across Europe, scoring goals at a staggering rate wherever he went.

In total, the 33-year-old has netted more than 400 goals across his career, with almost 100 of those coming for Belgium.

But at no club has he played more games and scored more goals than at Everton, where he thrived.

Lukaku would be welcomed back with open arms if the unthinkable did happen, especially given the striking struggles of Thierno Barry and Beto.

"If I was Everton, I know where I'd go. If I was going to bring a player back, I know who I would. Lukaku," King told Football Insider.

"He was a big success at Everton. He really was. He grew up at Everton Football Club. I'd bring him back.

"Don't worry about Richarlison. He's a better person than Richarlison."

Everton need the right option this summer

Everton's interest in a striker this summer is well reported. The likes of Liam Delap, Taty Castellanos and Christian Kofane have all been linked.

Between them, Beto and Barry scored 17 goals in the Premier League last season - by no means an awful return.

Yet Moyes is keen to find consistent goal-scoring in one player through the middle of his team, and Lukaku almost guarantees that.

There is plenty to think about when it comes to the former Toffee. His age, his wages and his significant injury issues.

When it comes to Lukaku's ability to find the back of the net, however, there is absolutely no question about it.
