Everton will regret swap deal collapsing, target has just won 15 duels in international clash
Everton should be kicking themselves for failing to make a move for Edon Zhegrova in the summer as he shines for club and country this season.
Juventus winger Zhegrova emerged onto the Toffees' radar last winter and remained an apparent target into the summer.
Everton discussed a swap loan deal with the Serie A side that would have seen Beto head to Turin in January, but nothing materialised in either window.
The 27-year-old was close to leaving Juventus regardless ahead of this season, but stayed put, and their decision to keep him looks like a smart one.
Zhegrova continued his fine start to the new campaign with another star turn for Kosovo against Austria on Sunday.
The versatile attacker is a regular for club and country again, with Everton unlikely to have the chance to secure his services anytime soon.
Everton should rue missed Edon Zhegrova opportunity
Zhegrova failed to register a goal contribution in 27 appearances for Juve last season following a £13million move from Lille in 2025.
His stock plummeted throughout the campaign as Everton spied their chance of a bargain deal, but their interest never advanced into a genuine approach for his services across two separate windows.
Zhegrova has taken his second chance at Juventus with real aplomb in the early stages of this season, notching two goals and an assist in four appearances so far.
His strong form has only continued for Kosovo, with a goal against Austria last week and an assist in the reverse fixture on Sunday.
Zhegrova shone over the weekend, as he created the Kosovan goal from nothing with a smart run down the right flank before passing to Fisnik Asllani to score.
He also completed the most dribbles (8) of any player on the pitch, had more touches (58) than any other attacker, made the most tackles (6) and made six ball recoveries throughout the game.
Zhegrova's standout performance also saw him win the most ground duels (15/19) of any player, as he led the hosts to a vital point on home turf.
He clearly would have been a great addition to David Moyes' squad in either of the last two transfer windows, especially considering how stale their attack has looked at times in 2026.
They have now surely missed their opportunity to sign the 27-year-old as his stock rises once more on the continent.
What has Luciano Spalletti said about Zhegrova at Juventus?
Spalletti is yet to hand Zhegrova a league start this season, but that will surely change soon after his goals off the bench before the international break and strong Kosovo performances.
The Juventus boss is clearly keen to see the winger keep improving, having praised him after a brace against Sassuolo last month.
He said: "Edon has got this quality – he becomes unstoppable and unpredictable when he creates these one-on-one situations in tight spaces."
Everton surely have no chance of securing his services, and could be made to further regret their decision not to try and sign the Kosovo star in the coming months.
