Jordan Pickford in 'shock' moment as English media react to win vs Costa Rica
Jordan Pickford was largely untroubled during England's 3-0 win over Costa Rica, but it was far from simple for the Everton star.
The 32-year-old shot-stopper has been the Three Lions' first choice the last decade, keeping his spot over the likes of Dean Henderson and James Trafford.
Rarely is there a worry that he could let his national team down, especially after yet another incredible personal campaign back at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Pickford could still be England's goalkeeper for years to come, with the shot-stopper showing no signs of slowing down, but that doesn't mean he's without his difficult moments.
Very few would have expected a mistake from the goalkeeper against Costa Rica on Wednesday, 10 June, but there was almost a calamity in the Everton man's penalty area.
In a moment that earned Pickford a "shock" 1/10 rating from talkSPORT's Adrian Durham, the goalkeeper attempted to dribble past a Costa Rican attacker before clearing the ball. It didn't go to plan.

His attempted clearance only found Costa Rican colours before Orlando Galo delayed a shot, allowing Pickford to race back to his goal, in what could have been a nightmare moment for him.
Other media outlets were far more forgiving, with Sky Sports awarding Pickford a 6/10 ratings, writing: "The only way Pickford gets dislodged from this England side is if he gets injured.
"He's been first-choice goalkeeper since his first World Cup appearance in 2018, under Gareth Southgate, and is now a part of the leadership team. This was a spectator job, but still a test of concentration."
Concentration was certainly a talking point. The Mirror also referenced his mistake, writing: "Largely untroubled apart from when poor clearances made work for himself."
Could the Everton star really be replaced at the 2026 World Cup?
To put it bluntly, there is a very small chance, if any, that Pickford is dropped ahead of the World Cup, even with so much talent on the bench.
Henderson and Trafford will both feel that they deserve minutes at this summer's tournament, the former more so due to his success at Crystal Palace over the last two seasons.
However, Pickford is the Three Lions' No.1 choice for a reason. He's consistent, he rarely lets the nation down, and he never lets anything shake his confidence.
That last point is always key, especially for England, when the team is always expected to make it far in the tournament.
Many are waiting patiently for the Three Lions to lift the trophy, and he's likely to play a huge role when that inevitably happens. It might not be this year, but it is bound to happen at some point.
