David Moyes should be fighting for his Everton future if he repeats blunder vs Wolves
David Moyes simply has to play his strongest team when he faces Wolverhampton Wanderers in Everton’s Carabao Cup third-round tie on Wednesday.
The Toffees are set to face the Championship outfit in the competition for the second season in a row, with the Old Gold club knocking them out in the third round last season.
Goals from Marshall Munetsi and Tolu Arokodare ensured that the Merseyside club crashed out of the cup at Molineux, and Moyes had no one to blame but himself.
The manager made seven changes for the tie, and this decision clearly came back to haunt the club.
Now, if Moyes repeats this and Everton are knocked out of the competition, the manager's position should be far less secure.
Cup competitions should be the Toffees’ priority this season, and the Carabao Cup is a golden chance for the club to finally end its trophy drought.
Everton need to prioritise cup competitions over the Premier League this season
So far this campaign, Everton have been solid in the Premier League.
They are unbeaten, having drawn three and won one of their opening four matches.
As a result, it is obvious that Everton should not be drawn into a relegation battle this season.
Therefore, the Carabao Cup and FA Cup have to be a priority, with both competitions being highly winnable.
However, if Moyes decides to yet again gamble against Wolves and rotate the team, and this results in a defeat, he should be sacked.
Supporters would rather the club sacrifice a few places in the Premier League and win a trophy than finish 10th and have no cup run.
Everton would be one of the favourites for the Carabao Cup if they take it seriously
Given that the teams in Europe now have to play more games, if Everton were to take the competition seriously, they would be one of the favourites.
Many of the big clubs tend to rotate in the early rounds, meaning if the Toffees were to draw them and play their first team, there is a good chance they’d win.
On top of this, Everton have plenty of players in their squad who have won major trophies at other clubs, so they certainly have the expertise to get the job done.
However, it remains to be seen how far the Toffees will end up going in the competition.
