David Moyes is steadily turning Everton into one of the Premier League's best pressing teams at the start of the new campaign.

The Toffees have enjoyed a bright start to 2026-27 with two wins and three draws from their opening five games, despite a hugely difficult end to the summer transfer window.

The future of the club at ownership level has been up for debate of late, but Moyes has got the team performing well on the pitch and making progress.

Everton have not typically been associated with high-energy football since Moyes' return to the club, but that is exactly what they have showcased in recent weeks.

The Merseysiders have already kept three clean sheets in the Premier League, and are finding a way to combine energetic, front-foot pressing with the stable defence that we have become accustomed to seeing.

Moyes is typically recognised as a pragmatic and somewhat cautious manager, but Everton's early-season stats suggest that he has got the change spot on so far.

Everton reap rewards from pressing

The international break has allowed managers to take stock of their teams' starts, and assess what tweaks need to be made moving forward.

However, for Moyes it will surely be a case of continuing in the same vein, given the impressive results that his change of style has brought so far.

According to Opta Analyst, Everton have applied more pressures in the opposition half than any other Premier League team so far this season, with 1,145.

330 of those attacking-half pressures have come from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall alone, who is working tirelessly to help Moyes overhaul his team's system.

The attacking midfielder is helping to lead the Toffees' press alongside Thierno Barry, and has often been the trigger for the rest of his teammates to step up the pitch.

Dewsbury-Hall's quality on the ball stole the show at Everton, but this term it has been his exceptional work rate that has allowed Moyes to transform the team.

Everton Insider: David Moyes ready to 'talk to other clubs' amid contract latest

David Moyes ready to 'talk to other clubs'

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider back in September that Moyes will begin "talking to other clubs" in January if the Toffees hierarchy don't address his contract situation.

The 63-year-old is out of contract at the Hill Dickinson Stadium at the end of the campaign, and is yet to be offered a new deal by the board.

Wyness has no doubt that Moyes would jump at the chance to continue, but he fully expects him to begin looking elsewhere if his future isn't secured soon.

The Friedkin Group are working to try and secure investment in the club, but their true priority should arguably be Moyes.
