Everton Insider: David Moyes ready to 'talk to other clubs' amid contract latest

Everton manager David Moyes may "publicly" open the door to other clubs if he is not offered a new contract by January.

That is according to former Toffees chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the Scottish boss will try to "put pressure on" the club.

The 63-year-old's current deal at the Hill Dickinson Stadium is due to expire at the end of the season, and there is little sign of him being offered an extension right now.

Wyness made it clear that Moyes' situation could change drastically depending on whether The Friedkin Group sell the club, but he made it clear that he deserves the "courtesy" of being kept in the loop.

The American owners are currently searching for a minority investor to come in and boost the club's coffers, but a full takeover is also not being ruled out.

Moyes' men have made a bright start to the new Premier League season, and remain unbeaten at the first international break.

David Moyes could get 'one-year rolling contract'

Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Moyes could be handed a "one-year rolling contract" if the club changes owners in the coming months.

A change of regime at the top may see a new man come into the dugout, but Wyness believes that Moyes has done enough to at least get a chance under any potential new ownership.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, he explained how a takeover at Everton could affect Moyes' future.

"It's weird. It's this uncertainty that has a cost and there is a cost that comes with managerial uncertainty," he said.

"What I'd expect them (new owners) to do is, if I were advising them, I would say probably go to a one-year rolling contract situation if David would accept that.

"And if I were advising David, I'd be saying, if things aren't clarified clearly before January, then start talking to other clubs and make it known publicly and put the pressure on. I think he deserves at least that courtesy. 

"We've mentioned before that if they were to try and look into a sale process, they'd want a caretaker-type manager, that may be the sort of choice they'd make, but I don't think they need a change. 

"Right now, it'd be better for them, and the club would have a higher valuation with the continuity of Moyes at the helm, and then let any new owner make that big decision going forward."

Everton 'should be embarrassed' by Moyes treatment

Former West Ham scout Mick Brown, who worked closely with Moyes in East London, told Football Insider earlier this week that the Friedkin's "should be embarrassed" by the way they have treated the Scot.

The ex-recruitment man revealed that the Toffees' owners view it as a "failure" that the team didn't qualify for Europe last term, which he sees as an "insult" to the boss.

Brown outlined that the Friedkins "do not understand football" and feels that Moyes has every right to be "frustrated" with the situation.

His side have made a hugely positive start after a difficult end to the summer transfer window, but there are no signs of the boss being rewarded.
