Sources: Everton's Anthony Martial transfer plan revealed

Everton will only move to sign free agent Anthony Martial if Thierno Barry picks up an injury in the coming weeks, sources have told Football Insider.

Recent reports from France have claimed that Everton have enquired over Martial's availability in the last few days.

Barry is the Toffees' only senior, recognised striker for the time being after they failed in a move for Folarin Balogun on Deadline Day and let Beto leave.

Balogun was close to signing a contract with the club before a late change of heart saw him walk out of Finch Farm at the eleventh hour.

Martial has emerged onto Everton's radar, but they are not set to offer him a contract as it stands.

The former Man United forward is without a club after leaving Mexican side Monterrey in June just 12 months into his two-year deal.

Fans have urged Everton to explore the free agent market after David Moyes was left with Barry as his sole striker option until January at least.

Martial is now 30-years-old and his career has stalled since leaving Man United as a free agent in 2024.

The Frenchman, who was once tipped for Ballon d'Or glory, scored 79 goals in 269 games for the Red Devils in his nine years at the club.

He impressed during a one-year stay at AEK Athens after leaving United, bagging nine goals in 24 appearances across all competitions.

Martial found the net just once in 20 games for Monterrey before leaving in June, and has been linked with a surprise move to Everton in the last week.

The Toffees are only likely to try and sign him if injuries force Moyes into the market as he weighs up his in-house options to provide competition to Barry.
