Stefan Borson drops verdict on owner getting '£300m' richer due to newly-agreed Everton deal

Everton's £15million-a-year deal with CMC Markets could become more valuable with success on the pitch next season.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Toffees' stars could earn bonuses from the club's multi-year sponsorship.

CMC Markets have become Everton's front-of-shirt sponsor ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, replacing Stake due to bans and restrictions on gambling sponsors.

Following the announcement of the deal, it was reported that CMC's owner, Lord Baron Cruddas, saw his valuation rise by over £300million.

Clubs all over the Premier League, such as Aston Villa and Chelsea, have struggled to find new front-of-shirt sponsors, so this a a huge weight off the club's shoulders.

Supporters have even raised the idea that this new deal could impact the Toffees' plans in the summer market, but that has been quickly squashed.

Stefan Borson reads through 'paper talk' in new Everton deal

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson believes that the idea of Lord Cruddas getting richer because of the deal is "paper talk," but supported the idea of performance-related bonuses.

"I wouldn't say that he became richer because of the deal. CMC is a very successful company that he owns," he said.

"I don't think the value is listed yet, but I don't think the value of the company moved at all on the fact that he'd done an advertising deal with Everton.

"That's just paper talk. The benefits for Everton depend really on what the deal is and the structure of the deal. I suggest and I suspect that they have no upside from the performance of CMC.

"It's possible they have upside from the performance of Everton. If they're successful on the pitch, then there'll be bonuses, I would think."

What's next for David Moyes?

With Hayden Hackney signed from Middlesbrough for £25m, the Toffees are wasting no time in getting some smart deals done this summer.

Tyrique George appears set to join permanently from Chelsea, with Merlin Rohl's stay at the Hill Dickinson Stadium being confirmed following his season-long loan.

John Stones' unresolved future also remains a talking point. Michael Keane and James Tarkowski are Moyes' preferred centre-backs, but there is room for another.

The striker position is also a concern. That is exactly why Liam Delap will be so heavily linked with a move to Merseyside this summer.
