Stefan Borson: Everton could soon have an '£80m' player on their hands

Everton could be looking at an eye-watering fee for defender Jarrad Branthwaite amid interest from multiple Premier League giants.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that staying fit will be key for the 24-year-old's future.

Liverpool and Manchester United have both emerged as potential suitors for the centre-half, with the latter previously seeing bids rejected.

Branthwaite has started all five of the Toffees' Premier League games so far in 2026-27, having made just 10 appearances in the entirety of last term.

Football Insider understands that David Moyes' side have already slapped a "huge" price tag on the talented defender, though it's not known how much.

With Premier League giants circling, supporters will want the club to squeeze every penny out of a deal if he is to leave. But that will only be possible if he can stay fit.

Jarrad Branthwaite could be in '£70m-£80m bracket'

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson believes that Everton should be able to get £80million for Branthwaite, but he needs to be playing consistent minutes for England.

"Obviously, the season is very young, so I don't think you can say how it's going to turn out," he said.

"Injuries, I think for him in particular, are really important. If he can have a clear run where he plays almost every game all season, then you could see him being in that £70m-£80m bracket.

"A player of his age clearly needs to play regularly for England. And that will give him, that will elevate him. There's always been a lot of talk about him moving."

During the summer of 2024, the Toffees rejected bids of £35m and £45m, plus £5m in add-ons, with the Red Devils failing to secure the defender's signature.

Who else could sign Everton's superstar defender?

Liverpool and Man United are unlikely to be the only teams keeping tabs on the 24-year-old, who has been called up by Thomas Tuchel.

Previously, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have shown an interested in Branthwaite, as too have Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

Mick Brown told Football Insider that Liverpool are plotting a move to sign the defender, but his move across Merseyside would cause controversy.

If he can remain fit, it seems like only a matter of time before the player earns a move away from the Hill Dickonson Stadium.
