Stefan Borson reveals how TFG can genuinely agree '£1bn' Everton sale

Published on

The Friedkin Group (TFG) should have no trouble reaching a £1billion valuation if they decide to sell Everton.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Hill Dickinson Stadium and the club's "limited liabilities" are major positives.

After an extremely disappointing transfer window, TFG added fuel to the fire due to reports of the owners seeking new investors on Merseyside.

Supporters are concerned by the hierarchy's lack of ambition, with some even threatening to boycott food, beverage and merchandise vendors inside the ground.

It is not fully understood whether the owners are looking to completely sell or just find new investors, but the current situation is certainly a concerning one.

The most likely outcome is that TFG welcome aboard new investors while keeping their majority stake, but selling the Toffees completely cannot be totally ruled out.

'Everton are one of the most historic clubs in the country'

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson believes that Everton could be sold for £1bn if the owners decided to leave after just 21 months.

"What do you get for your billion quid? You're buying one of the most historic clubs in the country," he said.

"One of the most successful clubs, historically. You're buying a club with a brand new stadium with limited liabilities from a contractual perspective.

"So it's not like they've got a whole load of somebody else's signings that are on massive contracts. They've probably not got as much player asset value as you'd like.

"But Everton as an institution, as a big club with a brand new stadium and one ready to go to the next phase, I think is attractive.

"The economy and the interest rates are not really in the right place of this but generally, it is possible that they could get up to a billion of headline valuation.

"That would be a good outcome for the Friedkins, and it's about the right price."

Stefan Borson shares verdict on Amanda Staveley-led Everton takeover

Is Amanda Staveley to Everton a possibility?

Amanda Staveley appeared to be in advanced talks to come aboard at West Ham United, but that seems to be all but over.

Now, Borson has suggested to Football Insider that the former Newcastle United figure could switch her attention to Merseyside with Everton.

She has been desperate for a return to the Premier League, but it did seem like a move to the London Stadium was the most likely outcome.

It would be difficult to see Staveley affording a £1bn takeover at the Hill Dickinson, at least by herself, but it might have to be explored if TFG decide to sell.
