Everton are well placed to beat rivals including Leeds United as they race to sign Fulham star Harry Wilson, sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old, who was part of the Wales squad that missed out on World Cup qualification this week, is set for a busy summer when his Fulham contract expires.

A number of Premier League rivals are keeping a close eye on his situation and hope to lure him away from Craven Cottage at the end of the season.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Everton have emerged among the front-runners for his signature as things stand.

Daniel Farke's side have also been long-term admirers of Wilson, but rival interest in his signature could now see them miss out and force Leeds to look elsewhere.

Leeds United set to miss out on Harry Wilson signing

Football Insider revealed last month that Leeds could miss out on signing Wilson given the strength of interest from other Premier League clubs.

Other sides are prepared to offer more exciting propositions than the Whites, who remain in a relegation battle despite putting themselves in a strong position.

Everton remain on course to qualify for Europe and are currently sitting eighth in the Premier League, while other clubs are also keeping a close eye.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Harry Wilson looks like he will be leaving Fulham on a free transfer this summer.

"He's weighing up his options ahead of the summer as a free agent, and he'll have the pick of a number of clubs because he's had such an outstanding season.

"He's in the best form of his career right now which has come at a good time for him.

"We know Leeds are long-term admirers of the Welshman and came close to signing him in previous transfer windows.

"It will be difficult for them to try and win the race for his signature in the summer because you've got a lot of interest from other Premier League clubs as well.

"Everton are one of the clubs leading the hunt right now, it's a real hard one to do for Leeds.

"If Leeds do not secure Premier League survival they would have no chance of signing someone like Harry Wilson because he'll want to continue playing at the highest level possible."

Everton's updated Wilson transfer plan revealed

Everton's interest in the Wales international has been long-standing, and they made an offer in the January transfer window which was turned down.

Fulham had no plans to lose their star man in the middle of the season, but will be powerless to prevent his exit when his contract expires in June.

Football Insider revealed last month that Everton will make another move for Wilson in the summer, despite seeing their mid-season approach rebuffed.

David Moyes is keen to strengthen his squad and build upon the success he has enjoyed this season, with wingers remaining at the top of his list of priorities.

Everton have planned to add creativity and flair around their hard-working stars, with the additions of Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish, and Wilson could be next.
