Keith Wyness shares 'dressing room' reveal as Everton seal another signing
Everton have secured the perfect type of player for David Moyes with the signing of midfielder Christian Norgaard from Arsenal.
That is according to former Toffees chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the 32-year-old is an excellent replacement for Idrissa Gueye.
The Merseysiders confirmed the signing of the Denmark international on Wednesday evening, and are understood to have paid the Gunners a fee of £7million.
Wyness believes that Norgaard is a "great addition" to Moyes' squad, and feels that he can help to "set the standards" for the rest of the group.
The former Brentford man is vastly experienced at Premier League level, despite a lack of regular gametime at the Emirates Stadium last term.
He previously spent six seasons with the Bees, and became their club captain ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.
Christian Norgaard perfect for Everton dressing room
Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Norgaard will be a good fit into the culture that is already established within the Everton squad.
The veteran is not expected to take on the captaincy at his new club, but Wyness is clear that having a player of his attitude around can only be a good thing.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, he explained why buying Norgaard is about more than just his footballing ability for the Toffees.
"When I looked at it bit more closely, although he's 32, he seems to be pretty good injury wise, so you're looking at another two seasons," Wyness said.
"I think in terms of Idrissa Gueye going, he is that sort of replacement. He's also been a captain where he's played before. So he's obviously the right type of person. He can set the standards.
"I think it's a great addition to the squad. You can't really go wrong for a player of that quality at £7m, and if you get two seasons out of him these days that would be considered a bargain.
"Plus I think he'll be a great addition in the dressing room and I think he's a Moyes type of player as well, so for me it's a good bit of business."
Everton working on Liam Delap as next signing
Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Everton are "working" on making Chelsea striker Liam Delap their next summer signing.
The West London outfit are looking to offload the 23-year-old this summer, and both the Toffees and Coventry City have taken an interest in recent days.
Everton are hopeful of landing delap, but sources say that if they cannot agree a deal, then they may turn their attention back towards Brighton's Evan Ferguson.
The Irishman emerged as a target for the Merseysiders last summer, before eventually heading out on loan to Roma.
