Everton are working on a deal to sign Chelsea flop Liam Delap this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Toffees face a battle for the 23-year-old striker’s signature, with Coventry City also registering interest.

If David Moyes’ side cannot get agree terms with Chelsea for Delap, then they could go back in for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Evan Ferguson.

The 21-year-old striker is currently out on the sidelines until October after picking up an ankle injury on loan at Roma last season.

Nevertheless, interest is still high for the attacker, with Football Insider  exclusively revealing that Torino have opened talks to sign Ferguson this summer.

Ferguson netted five times in 22 matches in all competitions for Roma last season before his injury.

How does Liam Delap compare to Evan Ferguson?

On the face of it, there is not much between Delap and Ferguson.

Both strikers are young and out of form after previously showing plenty of promise in seasons gone by.

Ferguson was outrageous for Brighton in the 2022-23 campaign, but has not hit double-figure goals for the past three seasons.

Similarly, Delap was epic for Ipswich Town in the 2024-25 campaign as he netted 12 times in the Premier League as the club were relegated. However, since moving to Chelsea, he has only found the net once in the English top-flight.

Nevertheless, when looking at their attacking stats from last season, Ferguson would seem the safer signing.

According to Fotmob on 5 August, the Republic of Ireland international averaged 0.35 goals, a 0.30 xG, 3.13 shots, 1.74 shots on target, 0.23 assists, a 0.11 xA and 1.74 chances created per 90 minutes in the Serie A.

In comparison, Delap averaged 0.08 goals, a 0.36 xG, 2.94 shots, 0.90 shots on target, 0.00 assists, a 0.02 xA and 0.25 chances created per 90 minutes in the Premier League.

What other business could Everton complete this summer?

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Everton could be willing to sell Tyler Dibling this summer if they sign a new winger.

The youngster has emerged as a target for RB Leipzig, just a year after the Toffees signed him.

Everton are not actively looking to cash in on Dibling, but could consider a deal if they can secure a high-quality replacement on the flanks.

An offer of around £35million could prove to be tempting for the Toffees after Dibling’s struggles at the club during his first season.
