Celtic winger Jonny Hayes has spoken of his relief at being fit once more after breaking his leg last season.
The former Aberdeen winger was getting into his best form of the season for the Bhoys when he suffered a season ending injury against Dundee on Boxing Day.
Now he can’t wait to kick on for the Bhoys in the upcoming season.
“I’m still a bit excited, running around a bit too much.
“It’s been a long time coming, getting back with the boys last week. I don’t take it for granted, it’s exciting to be back in.”
Hayes made 20 appearances for the Hoops last season and was a regular in the first-team squad before his injury struck.
Football Insider verdict
Jonny Hayes was unlucky in his first season with the Hoops, as he was really getting into his stride when he suffered his unfortunate injury. Despite his great performances for Aberdeen he was never going to be a regular starter for the Hoops, but will always be a good player to have in the squad. If he can show the form he displayed before his leg break he could well be influential in the Hoops side next season. He seems like the ideal player to have in the squad that can play in a game after a European tie, when some of the mainstays of the side are needing to be rested. Hayes can slot into the side and and make a contribution to the team. Will Hayes ever be a regular starter for the Bhoys? Probably not, but that doesn’t mean that he still can’t have a role to play for the Hoops in their season, which will be long and gruelling.
