Ex-manager amazed by 'phenomenal' Raphinha as Leeds player photos emerge

Alex McLeish has admitted “the sky’s the limit” for Leeds United star Raphinha ahead of his potential international debut.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland manager admitted he had been blown away by the “phenomenal” 24-year-old.

As photographed on Tuesday (5th October), Raphinha has linked up with his international teammates ahead of his country’s World Cup qualifiers.

He could make his international bow in Friday’s clash with Venezuela (00:30 BST).

The Leeds star missed out on making his first appearance for Brazil last month after choosing not to travel due to quarantine rules.

McLeish admitted the mercurial winger would be buzzing to get the chance to represent his country.

He suggested the Elland Road ace would take his career to another level by impressing on the international stage.

“Raphinha, who knows what’s going to happen with this guy? He’s just phenomenal,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“He will be absolutely thrilled about his call-up. When you’re a young player playing for your country, you know your club pays your wages.

“But when you hear that call for the country, it’s almost like going to war or something. You’re going to make everybody proud.

“Raphinha, with Brazil, they’re obviously seen as high-level, technical players. If he can really show himself in the Brazil jersey then the sky’s the limit for that guy.”

Raphinha has enjoyed a bright start to the new campaign, with three goals in seven games.

He has scored a total of nine times in 38 appearances for the Whites.
