Ex-manager digs at Man United stars as Old Trafford source issues 'surprise' Ronaldo reveal

Cristiano Ronaldo should be acting as an “inspiration” rather than intimidating others in the Manchester United dressing room, according to Alex McLeish.

The former Rangers manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Old Trafford stars should want to “raise their games” to the level of the 36-year-old “superstar”.

An agent of one Man United player told Football Insider (November 22nd) that Ronaldo’s teammates are “fearful” of not living up to the Portuguese icon’s expectations.

The Old Trafford source stated the summer signing is “too powerful in the dressing room” and is even considered the de-facto skipper ahead of captain Harry Maguire.

McLeish insisted the struggling Man United stars should be looking to “take on board” any advice from Ronaldo.

“If that’s true I would be very surprised,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“Obviously we know Cristiano is a superstar, but you wouldn’t think he would be able to go in and dominate and intimidate that dressing room.

“For me, those players should be getting inspiration and a role model instead.

“I worked with some big names at Rangers – some of these guys were playing in World Cup semi-finals.

“When they wanted to say something they said it, the Dutch guys liked to have their say – they were very vociferous in the dressing room.

“You have to try and take it on board as a player and show you can raise your game and play at an equally high level as those big names.”

Man United are currently under the stewardship of caretaker boss Michael Carrick.

The Red Devils face league leaders Chelsea on Sunday.
