Cristiano Ronaldo is too powerful in the Man United dressing room and his influence is affecting even senior teammates, Football Insider understands.

The 36-year-old has been regarded as a playing success since his sensational summer return to the club.

But behind the scenes things are not so rosy and the picture is painted of a superstar who wields too much influence and it is having a negative effect on even top-level teammates.

Man United

An agent of one Man United player told Football Insider that the players are "fearful" of being criticised by Ronaldo or even being on the end of a "dismissive look" from him in matches or training.

"Look at Bruno Fernandes," the agent said. "He's been a different player since Ronaldo joined - and they play together for Portugal!

"Everyone's fearful of letting Ronaldo down or not living up to his expectations. They don't want to be told off by him, or even get a dismissive look. It's a big problem that no-one wants to talk about.

"He's too powerful in that dressing room and it's not helping the other players".

Harry Maguire is United's club captain but Ronaldo is said to be the dressing room leader in all but name.

The Portugese all-time great has started eight of United's nine Premier League matches since his return to the club as well as all four of their Champions League games.

His 14 matches in all competitions have yielded nine goals - four in the Champions League - as well as two assists.
