Ex-manager excited by Celtic training ground reveal after what he's heard

Alex McLeish has admitted he is excited to see how Ange Postecoglou stamps his mark on the Celtic squad this summer.

The former Rangers boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Hoops had been handed a pre-season boost after the 55-year-old’s relatively early arrival.

As confirmed by Celtic, Postecoglou will take training for the first time on Thursday (June 24th) after arriving in Glasgow.

The new boss headed straight to the Hoops’ Lennoxtown training ground where he met with players and staff on Wednesday afternoon.

Celtic started their pre-season earlier this week with Postecoglou in isolation after travelling from Japan.

McLeish insisted getting the new boss in early would be crucial for the Hoops ahead of next season.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Preparation is everything.

“When you get a chance to prepare and you get time to prepare, this looks like a good time for Ange Postecoglou to come in. The earlier he gets in there, the better.

“He can assess and look at players immediately. Not just their running skills and getting your fitness up for the new season but in terms of the quality. He’s got a good reputation.

“He’s brought players through in Australia and the J league as well in Japan. I think everybody has now got a bit of anticipation to see how good this guy is.

A lot of people have spoken very, very highly of him. It’ll be interesting to see Celtic’s style of play, let me put it that way.

“To have a really good style of play, pressing and building up from the back, you need the best players.
