Ex-manager slams Solskjaer over 'big' Man United problem as damning footage emerges
Alex McLeish has caused a “big negative” at Man United after benching their “star player” Cristiano Ronaldo against Everton.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, accused the 48-year-old manager of “overthinking” the decision.
Following Man United’s 1-1 home draw against Everton, MMA fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov posted an Instagram video of Sir Alex Ferguson appearing to criticise Solskjaer’s decision to bench Ronaldo.
The managerial legend told Nurmagomedov: “You should always start with your best player.
Ronaldo, 36, was introduced after 57 minutes during the stalemate, but the Portuguese icon could not find the winner.
McLeish suggested the criticism for Solskjaer is warranted after his decision to bench his “star player” backfired.

“He’s probably done it to keep his performances at a really high level and maintain his freshness,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.
“Ole’s probably thinking if he puts Cristiano on the bench this week maybe he can come on and score a hattrick.
“That’s the dreams of a manager, the visions of what he’s thinking – but in actual fact it’s caused a big negative because Ronaldo will want to start.
“Ole will be thinking about his age, his fitness and probably because of the scheduling in football now, perhaps managers start to overthink these things and look ahead too early.
“Ole’s getting a bit of stick for it but that’s what happens in management when you’re not getting the results, especially when you don’t play your star player.”
Ronaldo returned to Man United in the summer window for a reported initial fee of almost £13million.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored five in seven appearances so far this term.
