Ex-manager tips Leeds to sign another Meslier as multi-million bid accepted for 'rising star'

Alex McLeish has tipped Leeds United to replicate the success of Illan Meslier with the signing of Kristoffer Klaesson.

The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Whites had already proved their recruitment skills with the Frenchman’s capture.

As revealed by Football Insider on Thursday (July 29th), Leeds have had a £2million bid accepted by Valerenga as they look to replace Kiko Casilla.

It is understood the young shot-stopper will undertake a medical on Friday before putting the finishing touches on his move.

Leeds have been in the market for a new deputy to Meslier following Casilla’s loan to Elche.

McLeish suggested the Whites’ record in the transfer market points to Klaesson becoming another standout signing.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “They got it right with Meslier. He’s very young and has been an absolute inspiration for Leeds.

“Can they keep bringing young ones in and throw them right into the heat of the Premier League?

“You would think that they have done their recruitment properly, and had a real proper assessment on the Norweigian boy.

“You would expect that he’s a rising star. I know a lot of clubs rely on older that experienced goalkeepers but, as I said, they got it right with Meslier.

“Everybody, I think, expected him at some stage to have a few slips and mistakes, but the guy has been ever so consistent.

“One of the finds of easily the last 20 years as a goalkeeper.”

Meslier has made 46 appearances for Leeds so far, including 35 in the Premier League.

Klaesson meanwhile has played 57 times for Valerenga’s senior side so far.
