Ex-manager: Winks is a 'tremendous' signing for Tottenham rivals as exit talks underway
Harry Winks would be a “tremendous” signing for a Premier League side as Tottenham open talks over a sale, according to Alex McLeish.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland manager suggested the 25-year-old needs to get back to playing football after a tumultuous couple of years.
As revealed by Football Insider on Thursday (July 19th), Winks is in talks to join a Premier League rival in a permanent deal.
Nuno Espirito Santo has given the midfielder the green light to leave and there is interest from several top-flight clubs.
It is understood Spurs value Winks at £30million but may have to accept a lower fee to seal a deal.
McLeish insisted the midfielder looked a “very impressive” prospect early in his career.

He suggested a move would allow the England international to fulfil his potential.
“He’s now in the middle part of his career,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“He’s still got a few years ago, Harry. He looked a very impressive young player in his early days at Spurs.
“Like a lot of young players, they can kind of go off towards Everest and then plateau a little bit. They can also sometimes dip.
“Harry’s been through that kind of process. Now he’s got tremendous experience and confidence to be able to go somewhere else and really bring something to his new team.”
Winks fell out of favour under Jose Mourinho last season and made just seven league starts before the Portuguese manager’s departure.
The 10-cap England international still has three years left on his contract at Spurs.
