Ex-striker claims 'liar' Levy is hurting Tottenham's transfer plans amid Martinez update

Frank McAvennie claims Daniel Levy’s controversial summer will make potential new signings cautious of signing for Tottenham.

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest Spurs transfer news.

A Tottenham source told Football Insider the club is still in talks to sign Lautaro Martinez as a replacement for Kane.

This came after some reports claimed Inter Milan won’t sell both Martinez and Lukaku this summer.

Levy has received plenty of flack this summer as Harry Kane’s transfer saga drags on.

Arsenal icon Kevin Campbell told this site Levy is trying to make Kane the “villain” of his own story.

McAvennie insists Levy has made Tottenham’s negotiating position weaker when it comes to transfer talks.

“Levy has done himself no favours this summer,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I get the Martinez stuff and I get that money talks but surely that’s an issue.

“Are other players going to want a Kane situation happening to them?

“Ultimately, I’m not sure that will make a difference but maybe players will want guarantees.

“Maybe they will want releases clauses, I bet Kane wishes he had one.

“Levy’s a liar and the players and agents know that.”

On 9th August, Football Insider revealed Martinez has told friends he has his “heart set” on joining Tottenham.

Kane’s future remains up in the air with Spurs’ Premier League season kicking off in a matter of days with a clash against Man City.
