Ex-striker tells Newcastle to pull out all the stops to land Willock after major update
Frank McAvennie insists Joe Willock will want to return to Newcastle United in some capacity next season.
The former West Ham striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims a one-year loan deal is ideal for all parties.
In April, a Newcastle source told Football Insider that the prospect of sending Willock back to the club for the entirety of next season was brought up during discussions in January.
Willock, 21, joined Newcastle on loan in January and almost single-handedly kept the club in the Premier League.
His eight goals proved to be vital as the Magpies dragged themselves away from relegation.
He finished the season with a remarkable run of seven goals in seven games.

This site understands Newcastle have between £8-£10million to spend on new players this summer.
McAvennie admits Bruce doesn’t have a lot to work with but suggested a loan deal for Willock is realistic.
“It’s really not a lot,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“They need to keep Willock, he’s come out of nowhere. He’s not going to get a game for Arsenal.
“They clearly can’t sign him but I don’t see why he can’t come back on loan for another year.
“He must want to stay. He’ll be thinking about scoring more goals in front of a crowd at St James’ Park.
“If Steve gets that over the line it would be a good move. Newcastle love their goalscorers.
“He’s stepped up and gone ‘yeah I’ll do it’, he’s matched Shearer. Sign him.”
Alan Shearer is the only other Newcastle player to score seven goals in seven games in the Premier League era.
Willock’s goal on the final day helped to secure a 12th place finish.
