Bristol Rovers are in talks to sign defender Jack Baldwin after his recent Sunderland exit, Football Insider can reveal.
The League One outfit are in the market for a new centre-back ahead of the next transfer window.
A Bristol source has told Football Insider that the club are working on a deal to sign Baldwin, 27, on a free transfer.
Discussions are underway and there is a growing confidence that the terms of a contract can be agreed.
Rovers believe Baldwin has the pedigree and experience to be a major asset for them next season.
Significantly, he is a free agent and will not cost a fee after being released by Sunderland last week.
He found himself out of favour at the Black Cats last season after being a mainstay of the team in 2018-19.
Baldwin was loaned out to Salford City and was a regular starter for them before the lockdown.
Baldwin, who was signed from Peterborough United in 2018, made 37 league and play-off starts among 41 appearances in his first Sunderland season.
Phil Parkinson’s side missed out on the play-offs and possible promotion after League One clubs voted to curtail the season last month.
In other Sunderland news, it can be REVEALED that Oxford United have joined Black Cats in the race for Ipswich Town attacker.
