Aberdeen are poised to sign Barnsley winger Ryan Hedges on a free transfer, Football Insider can reveal.

Hedges, who is out of contract at the Yorkshire club later this month, is undergoing a medical at Pittodrie ahead of joining the Scottish Premiership club ahead of next season.

A Dons sources has told Football Insider that Barnsley were keen on keeping hold of Hedges, but the versatile attacker has opted to move to Aberdeen on a free transfer.

The 23-year-old joined Barnsley from Swansea in January 2017 and made over 50 appearances for the Tykes, helping them win promotion back to the Championship this season.

Hedges enhanced his growing reputation with a man-of-the-match performance on his full Wales debut in March's friendly win over Trinidad and Tobago in Wrexham and he is a regular member of Ryan Giggs' squad.

Hedges' signing will come as a major boost to Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes as he looks to challenge both Celtic and Rangers next season in the Scottish Premiership.
