Exclusive: Alan Hutton blown away by 'Brilliant' Tottenham player he had 'No clue' about
Alan Hutton says that Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has unearthed a real gem in promising defender Japhet Tanganga.
The former Spurs and Scotland right-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admits he knew nothing about the teenage talent before his Premier League debut against Liverpool but that he was blown away by what he saw.
Tanganga’s senior debut came in the League Cup earlier in the season, while he has featured against Liverpool and Middlesbrough in recent weeks.
Hutton says that he sees something special in the 20-year-old and thinks he could help solve some big issues at the back for Mourinho.
“I thought he was brilliant, yeah a couple of times he dived in when he should have stood up but that’s inexperience,” Hutton told Football Insider.
“When the teamsheet came up I was like: ‘Who’s this?’ I was searching after that, trying to find some information because I had no clue but he looks quick, really quick, really strong and he looked on it from the first minute.

“I think there’s a really good player in there and Mourinho’s found someone who can play right-back. Obviously Aurier, decent going forward but he’s always had that chink in his armour defending. This young kid’s come in and shown that he can do both.”
Tanganga is a versatile defender with the ability to play at centre-back or on the right, Mourinho using him ahead of Serge Aurier in the club’s recent games.
In other Tottenham news, Darren Bent has been left raving over a forward the club have reportedly made a move for.
