EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke
Charlton Athletic defender Anfernee Dijksteel is preparing to undergo a Middlesbrough medical today, Football Insider understands.
The north-east club have been chasing Dijksteel all summer and they have finally agreed a fee in the region of £2million with the London outfit after having several offers previously rejected.
A Boro source has told Football Insider that the deal is set to be completed in the next 24 hours following the agreement over the terms.
Bristol City were also interested in Dijksteel, but the Dutchman has set his heart on a move to Jonathan Woodgate’s side.
Charlton are reluctant to lose the right-back but he has entered the final year of his contract and they do not want to risk allowing him to run down his contract and leave for free next summer.
Boro boss Jonathan Woodgate has made a new right-back one of his main priorities before Thursday’s transfer deadline and Dijksteel is seen as the perfect man to fill that role.
Dijksteel is set to become the third key man in Lee Bowyer’s successful promotion side to leave after the earlier summer exits of Joe Aribo and Patrick Bauer.
Capped by Holland at Under-20 level, Dijksteel made 39 appearances in all competitions for Charlton last season as they secured promotion via the play-offs.
In other Middlesbrough news, it can be REVEALED that the club are ready to blow Rangers away as talks begin to sign proven ace.
