Arsenal are set to rival West Ham United for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Martin Hinteregger ahead of January, Football Insider understands.
The Gunners have been keeping close checks on the £22million valued centre-back this season and will continue to do so in the coming months.
An Arsenal source has told Football Insider that the club are ramping up their interest in Hinteregger, 27, as they scout for potential new defenders in the next two transfer windows.
As revealed by Football Insider, West Ham are also long-term admirers of Hinteregger as they look to strengthen their own defence ahead of the new year.
Arsenal have seen the 44-times Austria international at close quarters when coming up against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League this season and have been impressed.
The 27-year-old fits the profile for the type of defender the north Londoners are seeking as he is left-sided and is effective in both boxes.
Hinteregger is regarded as one of the best left-sided centre-backs in the Bundesliga and enhanced his growing reputation with a towering display and goal in the 5-1 win over Bayern Munich last weekend.
It was his fifth goal for club and country already this season, four of which have club in 18 Frankfurt appearances.
He has played in all 12 of his club’s Bundesliga and Europa League matches this campaign, scoring four goals.
Arsenal have conceded 15 goals in the Premier League so far this season and under-fire boss Unai Emery knows he must improve his side’s defence if they are to challenge for the top four and honours.
