Darren Bent supports Aston Villa signing free agent Emmanuel Adebayor on the condition the player turns up and works hard.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Villans striker admitted he’d be all for the former Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City star, 35, arriving at Villa Park as he has all the ability to do well.
It was recently reported that Adebayor’s advisors had been in contact with the Villans to offer the forward’s services with them desperately searching for strikers.
The attacker’s advisors believe that with the ex-Premier League star being a free agent then Dean Smith may be tempted to gamble on giving him a chance.
Bent hinted that sometimes Adebayor can be seen not to put the work in or live up to his ability, but if he turns up with the right attitude then it’ll be a good signing.
When asked if Aston Villa should seize the chance to sign Adebayor, Bent told Football Insider: “It depends on what Adebayor you’re getting, we know he’s got all the ability as we’ve seen before, it just depends which Adebayor shows up.
“Is it the Adebayor who shows up, works hard and plays to show he’s still got it, if that Adebayor shows up I’m all for it.”
The 35-year-old is without a club since departing Turkish side Kayserispor in December after making just eight appearances for them.
Adebayor has played 242 times in the Premier League during his career, scoring an impressive 97 goals and registering 44 assists.
