Exclusive: Darren Bent makes huge Patrick Bamford claim for rest of Leeds season
Darren Bent has insisted that Patrick Bamford will start all of the 10 remaining Leeds United Championship matches ahead of Tyler Roberts as the spearhead of the attack.
The former Aston Villa and England hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, explained how he can see why Bamford, 26, is a favourite of Marcelo Bielsa despite criticism from some corners.
The forward, who has scored just twice in 12 games, was substituted last weekend for Roberts and the Wales international scored twice in the 4-0 demolition.
Despite Bamford’s barren spell, which now stretches seven games, Bent believes that Bielsa will keep faith in the front man for the entirety of the rest of the campaign.
That would represent something of a surprise given the brilliance of Roberts, 21, last Saturday.
“Listen, it was two good goals he scored, two good goals, but for whatever reason Bamford is Bielsa’s guy,” Bent told Football Insider.

“However you want to look at it, Bielsa loves him. Now I don’t mind Bamford, I know a lot of people give him a lot of criticism because he doesn’t score enough goals or that he misses a lot of chances but he works so hard for that team.
“He’s one of those players that if you ask his teammates, they’d say they’d miss him because he works hard, puts a shift in, does a lot of running, shuts people down and he does chip in with the odd goal.
“For me, Bamford from now until the end of the season is going to start but Tyler Roberts is pushing him.”
Roberts has started just four games for Leeds in the Championship this season and he has a total of three goals under his belt.
