Exclusive: Bent reacts to Spurs early team news, says Mourinho picking big name on reputation
Darren Bent claims that Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho is playing Hugo Lloris on reputation rather than his form.
The former Spurs striker speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the Portuguese boss is ignoring the 33-year-old’s mistakes this season and selecting him on his prior performances.
Speaking live on Sky Sports (Friday, 6 March, 12:55) Mourinho confirmed he hoped to have the French shot-stopper back for Saturday’s clash with Burnley, admitting that he would be assessed in an afternoon training session.
Bent insists that the long-serving keeper has not been at his best this season, suggesting that Mourinho is selecting him based on how he has performed in recent years.
Bent told Football Insider: “Mourinho, he’s more convinced with the reputation of Lloris rather than the Lloris that’s in front of him at the minute.
“We know Lloris has made errors as well, he hasn’t been great, Gazzaniga, other than his very first game against Liverpool where he was very good, he hasn’t reached back to them same heights.

“Little bit of a concern for Spurs, what do you do?”
Lloris missed a large chunk of the season as a result of a elbow injury suffered against Brighton, with Paulo Gazzaniga coming in to take his place in the side.
With the France international out with a groin injury, Michel Vorm started the midweek defeat to Norwich City in the FA Cup.
In other Tottenham news, Bent believes Mourinho has made a blunder over a 26-year-old Spurs star.
