Exclusive: Bent suggests Mourinho 'Desperate' for Tottenham to sign reported £25m-rated forward

Darren Bent suggested Jose Mourinho will be absolutely desperate for Tottenham to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Spurs striker stated that Spurs recruiting Cavani in January would be a fantastic signing for the club to make.

It was recently reported that PSG are demanding £25million for the 32-year-old forward despite his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Bent heaped praise on Cavani as he revealed that he thought the experienced striker is brilliant because he has already managed to score goals whatever he’s been.

When asked whether Spurs should sign Cavani despite him likely wanting a big pay packet, Bent told Football Insider: “That would be a fantastic signing for now.

“And I think Cavani is a big enough personality that he’ll come in…he’ll know about Harry Kane and how good he is, but listen with Harry Kane’s injury, you don’t know when he’s going to be back to his best, let alone coming back.

“So with Cavani, he’s someone who can get on a roll very quickly, keeps himself in unbelievable shape, he has scored goals at whatever level he has played at, he’s just brilliant, and he works so hard and I think he could go to Spurs and score goals.

“If they could get that over the line, I’m sure Mourinho is absolutely desperate to get him and you know what I’d be desperate for it as well as I want to see Cavani in the Premier League as he’ll score goals in the Premier League.”

Cavani has played 14 times across all competitions this season for PSG, scoring five goals and registering one assist in the process.

The Uruguay international has been with PSG since joining the French giants from Napoli in July 2013.

It was reported earlier in the window that Cavani had been mooted as a possible option for Tottenham but his likely wage demands were deemed too high.
